NARRATIVE: On Sunday, July 8, 2007 at 4:02 PM, 6 Companies of Spokane Firefighters, 3 Engines, 2 Senior Ladders and 1 Heavy Rescue under the direction of Battalion Chief Sabo responded to a reported fire in an apartment at 1903 West Broadway.

The first company arrived within four-minutes to discover smoke showing from the first floor apartment of a converted two-story wood-frame residential structure. Initial companies were utilized to simultaneously search the apartment for victims and attack the fire. Despite the amount of heat and extended burn time, Firefighters were able to confine the blaze to the room of origin, with only superficial damage to nearby kitchen and bedrooms. They extinguished the flames in just 10 minutes. The presence of a functional smoke detector alerted other tenants of the apartment building which immediately called 911. There were no injuries and the tenant was not home at the time of the fire.

PROBABLE CAUSE: The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
