NARRATIVE: On 8/14/07 at 10:23 A.M. the Spokane Fire Department responded to a house fire located at 3217 N. Nelson. Upon arrival, fire crews found a wood frame dwelling with fire showing from the eaves and roof area. An aggressive interior attack was made using hose lines and at the same time a search effort was coordinated to locate any victims that remained inside the home. Roof ventilation was also started in order to properly let the hot smoke and gases escape so fire crews could more efficiently locate the fire and extinguish it. This was accomplished by using chainsaws to cut openings in the roof. The fire was reported to be "knocked down" after 15 minutes. A total of 21 firefighters responded on this alarm on 3 engine companies, 2 ladder companies, a pumper ladder company, a rescue unit and 2 battalion chiefs. There were 5 occupants inside the house when the fire began and all made it out to safety. The Red Cross is currently assisting these occupants. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
